They also left behind Solaris(their OS). Though it may at this point be less popular than Linux, it still is apparently being used and maintained!

Great video! Joined a SUN reseller in 2006. There were great technologies from SUN back then, which were their time ahead (e.g. Sun Ray). Not much left of the old spirit since Oracle bought SUN.

I just interviewed Scott McNealy, what an amazing guy! He is second to none in terms of incredible CEO's and creating an exceptional corporate culture. If you are interested go check it out --> Episode #05 of Tahoe Minds!

FUN FACT, almost acquired Apple and MacOS and Solaris are something like brothers...NOW APPLE IS THE SUN'S HEIR:
-both Apple and Sun dicted the wab, Sun with Java and Apple with WebKit(still Java and WebKit is one of the most important of web! WebKit for browsers and Java Script for web design)
-both are BSD
-both are purely Unix(only MacOS got the AT&T certification), unlikely Linux
-both share same libraries, BSD's got similar libraries
-both are more web-like than a workstation
-both are professional and less home use
-both are got an awesome aestethical
-both are mostly open suorce, Apple's most components are free to download

So, yeah, pretty weird...actually owning MacOS means owning the closer thing to Solaris.

well - not entirely all . The fall of the company started with a swiss CEO who actually brought the company to its downfall in 2001. Then the riff's started once a year. I was in made redundant in 2005 and after me many others followed . All because of that one guy puting the whole company to an end. I wish he will never ever be a CEO in any company of the world. Sun had the best system, was 2nd to none in their products and the team spirit in the company was unique.

Wait - there was actually a company named “WinTel”, it made Intel computers running Windows NT, and Microsoft made a contract with them? Really???

The problem with Solaris is NOT the architecture. Its that Intel had far, far, far more resources.

You should mention Apollo, which was competing with SUn in the 80's

I know right about finding little information. It's like they never existed. Things are looking shaky for Oracle too at the moment, with AWS at their heels.

I used a Sun workstation at one job. No great loss, in my opinion.

You should start your video with "fiction, losely based on selected facts". This is not based on real facts at all and you invented several things.
