This worked, THANKS!!! I Purchased a new pixel 8 for my wife replacing her very old Moto G Power, for some reason contacts & messages did not transfer when doing the data transfer. This vid did the trick in getting all 641 contacts onto her new phone. It would be nice to be able to do the same with the messages.

I don't have a Google account. I have a Microsoft and Yahoo accounts. Will Microsoft or Yahoo account work?

Just a heads up, this didn't work for me. So I ended up exporting a contact file from the app and downloaded it to Google drive. Just make sure all permissions are enabled from the phone and contacts app, otherwise the contacts won't transfer over when you try downloading them again.

Whatbif you don’t have google account and you never save your contacts wwith google at all? What do you do then?

Not necessary. If you want to preserve your privacy you can easily directly transfer your .vcf files manually.
