Chandris Lines RHMS Ellinis Nov 1973 Pt 1

Super 8 movie taken during our return trip from Australia via the Panama Canal between Nov 73 and January 74. Picture quality is not great and contains no sound.

We were on this voyage too. Boarded at Sydney and came back to Southampton. I was only 10 years old but remember it well, especially the very early breakfasts and the apple pie on deck in the afternoon. Going through the Panama Canal should have been a highlight, but I got measles, so was quarantined. Still, got better by Ponta Delgada in the Azores, which coincidentally, is now a favourite holiday destination for me and my family. It's the only sea voyage I have ever experienced, and it was a memorable time.

Thanks Robsablue7. You must have boarded as we disembarked. We arrived back in the UK on 1st January 1974 a bit of a shock as it was freezing and the 3 day week was in full flow. Still we survived to tell the tale.

I WAS ON THIS TRIP. My mother and I go on in Auckland and sailed all the way to Southampton! Have not watched all of it yet to see if you got me in a frame somewhere, but I may have been one of the kids in the swimming pool - I was 10 years old. Did you know that David Bowie got on in NY? He sailed to Southampton, but kept a very low profile. We were standing next to him and his wife in customs in Sthptn. Thanks so much for sharing - I don't even have any photos of this trip.

Disembarked the Ellinis in Fremantle on 17 November 1973 a fresh ten pound pom. Thank you for sharing this video. :-)
