It’s so true, I realised this with my own parents. The order typically goes: idolise, demonise and then empathise. Parents aren’t always perfect, they’re human too.

Facts! When I want to slack up I remember they are always watching and getting their cues from myself and hubby. They may act like they’re not watching or that they don’t care but they do.

I always try to be the type of man and parent that I want my kids to think I am.

When their mum walked out on us, I was broken.
I let them see my pain and my suffering but I never let them see my anger.

Instead I showed them how to pick yourself up and move forwards, despite the suffering.
I hope I have given them, by showing, a blueprint for how to deal with life when it pulls the rug out from underneath you.

I agree. However this sounds like typical fairytale strategizing for those that have no idea what it’s like to be a parent. I may be wrong. Reality is that, it’s difficult to give yourself away for another person. Sometimes you will fuck up. Sometimes you will do things you regret as a parent. Its all part of the learning process
