► WTF Is... - Civilization V: Brave New World ?

I love how optimistic the Civilization series has been, too. Even the music is heartwarming and relaxing...

Hm. You know, at first glance, you might think that this game is fairly educational. It is, don't get me wrong, but it's not just all hard facts. In my opinion, Civilization also teaches you things on a much deeper level. I mean, it really put into perspective for me just how much humanity can accomplish. More importantly, it's taught me that even the seemingly most stable institutions can come collapsing down; that a government is a very delicate thing. The people can easily drive the nails of change into a government. A concept can cause harm in a society. Take, for instance, when a country of a different ideology has a significant amount of influence over you. Your people will look to them, and henceforth look to you to follow their lead. If you don't adhere to the people's will, if you ignore their entreaties, you're only planting the seeds of revolution into your cities. You can defend and prevent invasion. You can hardly prevent an idea from spreading, and it can be difficult to defend against them. 

Essentially, the mind rules over any gun or sword.

I know this is probably going to be buried in the comments, but Civ V has taught me many more universal lessons.

After almost 3000 hours logged this is still one of my favourite games ever. I only discovered Civ because of TB. His amazing reviews and emphasis on integrity made his opinion one to be trusted. The only reason i ever picked up this game is because he recommended it. Thank you TB for bringing this wonderful game to my attention. Rest in peace.

I only have the standard game. I had never played a civilisation game before so have nothing to compare it to. However I adore it; the sense of progression, the visuals, the fact you can be a decent guy and win (rare for a RTS). This DLC looks worth a go though

I love how the AI acts. Especially when they denounce me or make fun of me, then I denounce them back and they something stupid like "I never expected this from you." Even though they denounced me first, stupid fuckers. I will miss them being aggressive though. I like the fact they are more rational but it sometimes is fun when they raise hell with your empire.

I played on prince and they did go to war with me a few times. I think it just depends on which civilizations you are against. Any civilizations which focus on conquest victories will likely go to war with you eventually if you share a border with them.

Wait. You mean you have to buy an expansion to patch the problems in the vanilla game?

One of the things still really peeves me about Civ games is that you can't set up a scenario and then play it! I mean, you can put down whatever you want in the map editor but when you try to actually start a game you still start out with 1 settler and all random resources.

After 7 years im watching this and havent played brave new world. Over 700hrs on Civ 5 so i think its time now. Very fun video and you sold me this extension right now. Thanks.

I've payed like £10 for Civ and all the DLC. Then again I was lucky, I got Civ V for free through the golden Joystick awards then upgraded to gold during the steam sale and bought brave new world for like 66% off or something similar.
