Manjaro Plasma-Mobile on the Linux PinePhone! (Beta5)

Overview of the Manajro mobile Linux distribution running KDE Plasma Mobile. I discuss some of the things I do and don't like thus far. Some of the bugs and glitches I'm still getting and what I'm looking forward to going forward.

Great overview :) just a heads up, for whatever reason acceleration for the camera preview is currently broken in Manjaro - it usually is perfectly smooth. The issue with the modem dropping SMS (and sometimes calls) has also been sorted; fixes for both coming in next release.

Thx, very useful. I've ordered my PinePhone a couple of weeks ago, looking fwd to some hopping. I don't really care about having lots of apps, I believe the thing, you know, 'One piece of s/w (or device in this case), one function, do it well'.
My main interest is security and privacy, so as long as it does calls and texts ok I'll be happy. I carry a camera with me for shots, vids. I don't even want bluetooth or wifi, I'm strictly ethernet, even for the phone..
The only thing I'll miss is FaceTime, and as soon as I can persuade my son to install an alternative, that'll be sorted too. (Oh, and dual-sim)

Signal works well on manjaro. Go ahead and install it on your phone and it should work find with manjaro plasma.

So essentially most of the development is on hold because of the lack of proper GPU acceleration, that's a huge shame. I'm confident that if this problem gets addressed, the community will be able to pick things up at a speedy pace, the Linux mobile project obviously has massive potential.

very nice! it's definitely an improvement, although not exactly ready for the majority of smartphone users (just my opinion)

It seems usable, if you don't expect too much. I also like the KDE interface.
The only concern I have is that the updates would sooner or later break the system.

I really cant wait until the PinePhone becomes usable as a daily driver.

I'm using a fairly high end device rn but I never get any use put of all that power, so I wouldn't mind downgrading once this phone dies.
