G'day ken, would you advise against cropping in camera too?

Is there any difference between formatting the card in-camera and doing it on your computer? I always hold down the delete button and press the rear dial to format my cards. Should I stop doing this?

Perhaps that's the reason why the trash button and ultrasonic cleaner never existed on film cameras 🤣

I have used Olympus cameras for the past 15 years, all pro bodies until today and the Olympus sensor cleaning works fantastic! Believe it or not, but i had let clean the sensor twice thoughout all these years and i use my cameras heavily and i change lenses under all circumstances.

If you delete a file and the card gets 'corrupted' the issue is with the card not the camera's delete code. Deleting is simply making an area of memory available. It may reveal an issue with the card, but not cause it. Certainly not any more than writing a file to the card. Which happens, of course, and why you need redundancy. Unless there was some issue with the code in which there would be widespread issues and it's doubtful that all manufacturers would have the same faulty code in their delete routines. Any interaction with the file system of a memory card that is ready to die could trigger problems.

LMAO! I must agree with the sensor cleaner comment. A FB friend is constantly posting pics with spots all over them. I tell her she needs to clean the sensor and I'm always told, "that's not the sensor, it cleans itself."

I've been using delete button on cameras for 10 years. Never had a single corrupted files on any card.

Hows it going bud! I currently have a Panasonic DMC Fz1000. I am looking to upgrade to something similar, or something based off your discretion. I shoot cars 90% of the time, and scenery for another 5%. I film cars as well. I would like something that can do both. Thank you. I live your work.

*_OUT OF PLACE QUESTION:_** Say, I left the Nikon D700 in my bag for about two years, with batteries both in the camera and the power pack (both dead). Now, I have charged the batteries but the camera will not power on. I tried everything. How do I resurrect this camera? Do I use a power adapter that I don't have...? (We'll, I'm about to buy one..). Could you or anyone HELP, please?*

if you use delete when you are in grid mode while you are viewing the photo. that the time that it will delete all the files.

Deleting from the card is of the same risk as picture taking. You are jeopardizing the whole content of the card each time the picture is taken, but it does not mean that you should not take pictures. Deleting a picture by mistake, that I agree, is more risky than card failure. I could live without the delete button🙂

I delete photos in-camera like a lunatic. :)

A belly button is useless, yet we all have one!

I have had the exact same thing happen to me. I used the delete button and all the photos were gone....not just the one I chose but all and even after hitting the delete, no photos were to be found.
Now I either format insert my card into my USB 3.1 reader and delete there using the desktop. So far, not one time has the card gone bad or refused to write or read after deleting photos via the desktop reader. I have had problems buying high capacity cards off Flea Bay which were fake 128GB cards. I normally never use larger capacity cards as what is the point? Buy several 32GBiters of high quality cards and I have not had any problems with them. Bigger is not always better.

I don't edit in camera. I've had images I didn't think much of in preview, but loved when I got them into the PC where I could better assess the crop, contrast, etc.

Agree on Delete button.  Only when my wife reviews the photos I just took, IF she is not happy with the photos then she just asking where is the Delete button.  It was funny when I heard that.
