Monsters aren’t usually weak, you’re just insanely strong. Makes sense that it took a skeleton with constant dodging and a no-invincibility-frame gimmick to stand up to you in genocide

Fun fact: In neutral and pacifist, Asgore say "I wish I could ask 'would you like a cup of tea'" because he has to fight us, as we are human. But in genocide, he does ask if you want a cup of tea, as he doesn't see us as human. It's a good easter egg.

Spamton NEO is also able to boost his defense at the cost of lowering his attack, so I presume Mettaton did the opposite and went all-in on attack, but didn't get the chance to attack at all

similar is true for spamton neo as well. he actually has zero defense stat, and negative twenty-seven in snowgrave but makes up for it by having a sky high hp stat.
funny enough, jevil has the highest defense stat in the game, at a staggering five, most enemies never going higher than zero

One theory I saw is that NEO is meant to kill humans but we are seen as a monster

I'm so glad you made a short about this! Most people brush Mettaton NEO off as just a joke, even making fun of Alphys's invention making skills *(considering he's described as her greatest invention), * so I hope this makes more UT fans aware of the actual truth :)

NEO was never weak. We were just so strong by that point that it didn't matter how strong they were. We were stronger. In Snowgrave, we are not the one gaining the most power. So of course we're not strong enough to defeat Spamton NEO.






But Noelle is. Because she gained more power. Just like we did in Undertale.

Also Mettaton NEO has 90 ATK (10 in files) which would suggest that his actual fight was planned, but Toby decided otherwise.

I'm pretty sure that Toby originally wanted to give Mettaton NEO an actual boss fight but decided against it as he didn't want such a hard boss fight right before Sans.

My headcannon is that he does have 9 defense however if you look at his design, you’ll notice the fact his entire soul is completely unprotected other than a bit of glass covering it, so he starts the fight, one of the toughest monsters in the underground ready to kill you… and then you just rip his soul out of the robot body and crush it in your hands

I liked the fan made fight where he goes into box mode before getting hit to absorb damage, it was a really cool concept!
