RV Toilet Paper....Is it worth the extra $$?

In this episode, I run a simple test that any 4th grader could do for the science fair where I look as how quickly does RV Toilet Paper (Thetford 2 Ply) break down compared to three septic safe home toilet papers that I purchased at Aldi. The three Aldi brands compare to Scott, Angel Soft and Quilted Northern. I put all 4 into both regular water and water treated with Thetford's liquid Campa Chem. Watch to see how all four brands do in this week's episode of Travels with Delaney.

I think we should get a sticker or watching the whole thing. So funny but very useful for newbies like me. LOL

I really appreciate you making the demonstration. It was a real eye-opener. I’ve always use the RV toilet paper but I really didn’t see much more benefit with it for the difference in the price. I’m going to reconsider what I purchased after your demonstration. Thank you for taking the time.

We have always used 1 ply septic safe regular toilet tissue per advice from our dealer for our Tab 400 and it seems to work ok.. The sensors can be sensitive to a false reading of a fuller tank so it really does help to do a tank flush regularly. Thanks for the video Patrick, because we wondered if we should use rv paper.

Very thorough and interesting test. This may be too much TMI but I prefer to use Cottonelle wet wipes (for that extra clean feeling!) and dispose in a separate bag in a can next to the toilet.

If you arrive on Friday afternoon and checkout on Sunday morning, that is actually less than 48 hours so it seems that longer stays are better for your black tank.

I am really enjoying your videos, I am going through and watching all of them. You really are thorough with everything you do and recommend. We think very much alike and I actually told my wife that if you recommend something, I won't even question it. I have ordered the tripod antenna already.

We have ordered a 2021 TAB 400 Boondock that shove here in about a month so enjoying the older TAB videos. Keep up the good work!

Good test Patrick, we always used the Thetford brand, but after seeing how it breaks down almost the same as the others I think we will use the brand we use at home. Plus it helps to flush tanks after each use to try to clean sensors no matter what brand you use

Hi Patrick, We use Kirkland brand from Costco on the advice of the maintenance tech where we bought our travel trailer. We have a 35 gallon black tank and also use Dometic holding tank treatment pods. So far after three years of RV’ing we seem to have had great success. I do a thorough cleanse after every outing and have seen good results. Keep up the great work. Thanks from Paul and Marie in Sacramento.

Awesome video! I was also curious about Toilet paper. We were camp hosting for a month and a half on an Island and were buying toilet paper at the local hardware. I was dumping about every four days and I was amazed that there is not much difference between the more expensive RV toilet paper and the one we like the quilted northern. I use the Unique digest it and it seemed to work. I did happen to take my side cutters to cut the little tabs in our Rhino flex hose to prevent toilet paper from hanging up. Thank you again Patrick, for your great comparisons.

Nice video. We use septic safe TP at home and on the road. Usually Scott single ply. Usually, but always septic safe for our aerobic system at home. Missing part of your test is the organic effect with microbes that feed on cellulose. Theoretically, if TP breaks up with plain and chem added water, one can expect more so in an organic environment. Thanks.

In Canada I use Purex Premium, safe for Septic tanks. Doing same test as this. Turns to mush in about 3 hours.

I can’t believe I watched this whole thing! How did you manage to make this interesting? 😂😂😂

We use the Thetford brand of toilet paper and the Campa Chem.
Very interesting that the Campa Chem doesn't help with the breakdown. Will continue to use it as I feel that it helps control the oder of the black tank.

We use Scott RV toilet paper from Walmart and Happy Campers tank treatment (Amazon). We are weekend warriors so I doubt anything breaks down for us. We went for the blank tank flush option on ours though and I am sure that helps since stuff doesn't sit in there long enough to break down.

Very good video. I watched the entire segment as the mystery unfolded. My bet was on single ply Scotts. But will switch to Angel Soft after your test. BTW, GirlCamper Janine Petit has mentioned she uses the cheap Dollar Store TP.

LOL that was amazing. 😂 I will bet you that you never thought growing up that you would do a toilet paper comparison video. I sure never thought I would watch one but I did with a more than passing interest as to the result. 👍

One thing also. No "bodily fluids" were added during the tests and I believe the tank treatments depend on those additional enzymes to activate the product and break down the waste. Or so thats how I believe they work. Please don't do another video trying that though! This is a family channel!

it has been suggested to me to use reg tp and place into a bag lined garbage can. Use the RV TP for big jobs. The RV Paper is much more expensive. Just empty your garbage daily.

The job isn't over until the paperwork is done.

Interesting table top outcomes. Curious about your and other subscriber's thoughts and research on the safety aspect of black tank chemical additives, from both a human and environmental perspective. I've read that odor maskers (minerals/salts/sulfates) are more risky from a human toxicity standpoint and that products used to break solids (e.g., enzymes/bacteria), while generally safe to both humans and the environment, do not address odor masking. As always – thanks for a great video Patrick - really appreciate and enjoy your work!
