In this video I go over my doubts about making art and the reason why I decided to stop making art altogether:

Thank you Dries! This was really interesting. I have decided to put all my energy into YouTube as I think there is still room for good artists in this space. That said, I will never stop painting, and also have my eye on some lovely public wall spaces in the town in live in in France...😁

The video I recommend for those who want to quit the 'traditional art career' trajectory.

4:00 All those questions are usually never answered or very hard to get an answer for. You could also ask things like if they have a mail list of customers/buyers/collectors how ever you name it that they can call up or contact to tell them that they have this new wonderful artist for them to visit and see in their gallery, etc, but things like this you don't get answers for. This is what some galleries used to do in the states when they got new work they would contact people from their mail list that they knew would buy and they would come to the gallery and buy. The work would sell just after it was in. Will galleries in Europe tell you if they got such mail list of people they know they can come in the gallery and buy when contacted? If not a gallery, etc., could not rely on random people and you might never sell anything. Mail list? A mail list is critical.

The story about what happened in Berlin with the ten artists almost sounds like a funny story. So this business plan and financial plan included ten artists at the space outside of town where there is no foot traffic for 5k per month. But then again random people do not buy period. If you see my other comment a mail list is critical. You could be in the middle of nowhere and sell or be in the center of a large city and never sell with people only asking where something is or just passing by. Doesn't matter. Mail list is critical where you contact people you know will buy. You could sell in Gent if you have a mail list or sell nothing without a mail list even in the cloudy and rainy Brussels City center unless maybe it's the Sablon quartier.

Even if you asked him those questions. He would've told you whatever you wanted to hear. When asking those questions. Ask for PROOF!

It's the artist that creates this space though. be it they are stubborn and true to their desire or be it cause they see a glimpse of what could be and try to materialize it.

Imo, no Ai Wei Wei selfie no instagramm hype either. But was there instagramm when Ai Wei Wei did it?

still a great talking point and video <3

Dries, you are 100% correct. I never indulge time with Instagram or Tiktook or Fakebook. I don't communicate with gallery owners nor exhibit. I have entered a few, highly renowned art prizes, where being a finalist or winner is a good marketing accolade .
