Sampson Boat Co; Restoring Tally Ho ep6. The Rebuild Begins

In this video I finally start actual work on the 1910 Albert Strange Gaff Cutter Tally Ho. Once I have cleared a bunch of timber out of the boat, I can begin removing the Garboards ( the lowest planks, next to the keel ). But they are stubborn, and don't want to leave the hull of the sailing yacht that they have been fastened to for 107 years.

Rewatching in Feb 2024 - I love that “just taking off the garboards” seemed like a quick fix which became….well, SO much more 😂😂

Marks the very first appearance of the introduction: "Hi! My name's Leo, and I'm a boat builder and a sailor..."
With many... so many more to come :)

Currently just finished Ep. 98. I started watching about Ep. 50 or so. Just found a couple of the first ones that I missed and it is fun to see the beginning after watching the end! The amount of work and dedication as well as Leo's pure genius continues to amaze me.

Just noticed the launch vlog so I know what the ending must be like, instantly addicted which is always a lovely feeling. 'Trigger's broom' immediately springs to mind, in a good way :)

When I first found this channel and saw how little was left of Tally Ho, I couldn’t figure out why Leo doesn’t just take a bunch of measurements and then throw the whole thing out and start from scratch. The new rebuilt boat has turned out to be amazing, though. 😊

There are other videos I have been watching concerning sailing single-handedly across the oceans around the world etc. But you are the real deal. I’m sure I will be watching all of your videos. God bless you for working hard and I will pray for your protection along with your crew, in Jesus name amen.

Just rewatching this now in June of 2021. It's really amazing to be reminded just how far Leo & Co. have come since the very first days. It's also fun to see how the production values of the videos have improved from 2017 to 2021.

It's also fun to be reminded just how rough Tally Ho was when he brought her to Sequim and how beautiful she is now. Cannot wait until Leo's all done with the interior fittings and structure, and finally under sail.

I am really going to miss Pancho's antics, though. What a remarkable bird.

When looking at projects of this magnitude, one can't help thinking the only name you can put on the bow of the boat is "Property of Theseus. But it is well worth it. Will be following this with great interest. A great opportunity to understand the minds of ship builders past.
