My Mom was the pianist for a littltle Store Front Church in Tacoma Washington around 1956, and this was always my favorite!

This hymn was written about the battle of Allatona, GA during the American Civil War. A small contingent of Federal troops held a fort protecting a large depot of food rations and were beseiged by a large rebel army and held back repeated assaults. General Sherman sent a dispatch to John Corse, the Commanding Officer: "Hold the Fort, for I am coming".
