There might be a few purists out there who insist that only the original frame is acceptable, but I seriously doubt they're a large number. Buying a Cobra replica is about the appearance, and the performance, and a stronger chassis with a wider range of engines, that doesn't affect the looks of the car, gives you that.

If Carrol Shelby was building Cobras today, he wouldn't be using the chassis from the 60s. He'd use the best technology available to him.

You don't know how good you have it. My body and chassis cost $ 25, 000 . My engine cost $23, 000 plus god knows how much I spent finishing it. All before Factory Five even existed. Don't hesitate to buy this bargain basement deal. I wish this was around when I decided to build one.

I love the hardtop version of that mk5. It’s a beautiful design and the options only setting you back $40k to start with the 7.3 Godzilla! If I had $40k, I would spend it on that car.
It’s a kitcar/replica, no need for authenticity. If it’s not a real Shelby Cobra, it’s alway going to be a replica. Style, performance, options are the only thing that matter, here. Building it yourself, turning heads, knowing the complete set up, priceless.

I see that there's even a right hand drive version if one wants to build an AC looking replica from across the pond. FFR continues to improve year after year. I can see how today's builders will have so much easier of a time than when I picked up my kit in 1999.

With way more grunt you need a more stable platform that doesn't twit so you can put the power to the road & better handling because not all roads are straight some of them have things called corners.

Mark 5 is a great frame upgrade. Realistic build price for one of these cars with IRS rear suspension, Wildwood brakes, leather seats, shipping costs, new crate engine, professional body work/paint is around 75-80k.
