Quick and easy fix for the "Location is not available, The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable." message often experienced with external hard drives.

Simply open a Command Prompt (Admin) window and run the command: chkdsk /f x:
(where x: is the drive letter)

I have this issue on a external disk that I've used on my Macbook Pro. I had the same error message however it only appeared once. I've since tried accessing the disk on both PC and Mac but it never shows up. I've also switched USB outer case for the disk several times but it hasn't helped. Any ideas what I can do to get access to it so I can back it up?

After I did this my sd card is empty why is that? I had 30 -40 mp3 files in it?

Hi All, I have a Sandisk drive that - just now and then - pops a message saying that it has not been formatted and would I like to do that now.  I don't, because it's full of stuff, so I plug in the drive again and it's  back to normal.  I tried the procedure detailed here and the message I got was that the drive was in RAW format, so checkdisk wouldn't work.  Any ideas?
