My compliment for the build! Very impressive!
Nevertheless the only way this solution colud be meaningful is if somehing like a "mechanical shifter" would take in account for the sincronous movement of the sliding gear.
Take about a mechanical odometer or counter, there is a pin that engages the Km wheel and shifts it of a defined quantuty in a sincronous way.
If your shifter can me mechanically drove, than it can became "safe enough" to be actually used.
Than for completeness I would say it should also have elical gear sets.
The concept is known but the challenge is about reliability.

Is it possible to make it one smooth, straight shot to remove the steps in it? I had and idea very similar to this but there are absolutely no specific steps. It would technically allow for hundreds if not thousands of completely unique ratios. The only difference that I can tell is that it doesn’t have steps of any kind like the one shown in the video.
