How to set up a custom email domain on Microsoft 365 Family and Personal plans (formally Office 365)

Long gone are the days where you could purchase a domain name and use the free "Google Apps for your domain" or other services such as Zoho Mail to have your own free, reliable, custom email domain. - Today I go through the process of setting up a custom email domain on Microsoft's 365 Family plan (this also works on the Microsoft 365 Personal Plan too) and how you can share this with others.

I look at the process of purchasing and linking the domain from GoDaddy (which you must use for this process) and also demonstrate that you can manage your DNS records from GoDaddy too (it's not restricted to hidden MX records or restricting you to hosting a website on the same domain name on a GoDaddy web server or hosting plan).

I also talk about the benefits and other features that you get with the Microsoft 365 plans such as the 1TB of OneDrive storage for up to six members of your family/household.

I already have a GoDaddy domain, but when I try to Validate the domain it says my domain is not set to correctly. I've called GoDaddy and HostGator (where my website is hosted) and they supposedly made the adjustments but it still won't validate. Thoughts?

Thanks for vid. Question for you though. How is it that you get around having to use GoDaddy for the Domain Registrar? For example I already have a domain registered with Network Solutions. I should not have to migrate my existing Domain over to another registrar in order to use that custom domain. Wonder if you and or any others have come across that and what it is that you did in order to work around that without of course having to go the route of buying a business version account instead of the Family version.

informative video. I have a question, what if I have set up the Microsoft family 365 and buy the domain at GoDaddy via Microsoft family 365, then I need additional Microsoft family 365, can I use the same domain that I bought earlier for 1st Microsoft family 365 ? would the setup be the same?

Great vid, thank you very informative. Just have one step left and so have a question, I was with Google, custom domain and 5 family accs. I have a 365 family subscription and have followed your vid to setup personalised email. Have migrated the domain to Godaddy as the registrar. My DNS settings are still with my previous registrar, I can't find any details on what I should change the DNS settings to to have mail flow to MS? Would prefer to close my old registrar acc and have DNS & Domain with GoDaddy. Any advice.

Informative . My only issue is whenever I send email from outlook apps, I have to manually select professional email address as send email .
Is there any way to setup professional email as default?
