Jesus prayed coz he is setting an example for us. We need to emulate him in life in all aspects and prayer is one of them.

He left part of his heavenly power when he became flesh, and through prayer and fasting he was reconnecting with His Father, and in this way also becoming better prepared Himself. Also setting an example for us.

My take on this, is prayer is basically a spiritual conversation with god, you exchange your feelings with him. Which is why, the son of god prayed to his father.
