They interviewed sucker punch, and the guys basically said they wanted to Amp up all the coloration on the island for the game, despite how gorgeous everything already was.

Also note what the director of the game said, they took a lot of inland Japan geography for the game Bc in real life it’s just a lot of forest. Tsushima never had flower fields or a shit ton of springs laying all over.
