Researchers are developing cryptographic algorithms that are resistant to quantum attacks. These are called post-quantum or quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms.
Approaches include lattice-based cryptography, hash-based cryptography, code-based cryptography, and multivariate polynomial cryptography.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is actively working on standardizing post-quantum cryptographic algorithms through an ongoing competition and evaluation process.
My overall feeling is that quantum computers may never be accessible to hackers judging from the enormous resources that go into their development. But that does not rule out the fact that every technology has the potential of being misused even by the seemingly good actors who can turn bad by working for the bad ones. What are your thoughts?
