Hawbucks is attempting to breed healthier bulldogs, though this indeed also involves deflattening the face. I'd say that's worth it, a dog is a companion, not an ornament.

My mother's Victorian bulldog tore ligaments in both his legs by age three because he would sprint about, unaware of the limits of his body. The vet says that he shouldn't be permitted to run around in open spaces, so he's made to stay inside and watches sadly from the door as my labradors chase around the yard and play. I feel so bad that he'd been bred in such a way that he can't enjoy life as a dog.

My drama teacher had one named Tank. They named him that because if Tank had enough of a walk, he would sit down and refuse to move. She once got him home by putting him on a skateboard and other times her husband carried him.

I love English bulldogs. But I’ll will never get one. We had one growing up and he passed away at 1.5 years old due to a heart attack. The breeder offered a new dog but we didn’t want to go through that again. I’ll never ever get a unhealthy dog breed. The truth is that you have to get lucky to get a healthy bulldog ( or other short nosed breeds). They often can’t even breed naturally anymore. That is Mother Nature saying STOP IT!

Healthy dog breed: *EXISTS*

American Kennel Club: "Oh, what a cute dog! It would be cuter deformed!"

Dremel makes an attachment specifically for trimming dogs' nails that protects the dog from accidentally being touched with it and collects the dust.

There are thankfully a few breeders in Germany and France working to breed some of the less healthy traits out of the British Bulldog bloodline. It's a shame because I love these dogs so much but they have to suffer because someone decided them having a flat face was necessary. Hopefully in years to come the more traditional breed will make a comeback and they can be happier, healthier dogs.

Every single time i see one of them i think of the breathing issues. It's not fair to them or to any other breed, to enhance traits while detracting from their health.

Our bulldog, Winston, passed last November. We miss him very much, but will always treasure our 10 years with him.

Breed "standards" have ruined the health of so many breeds. It's tragic.

Churro, what a fitting name for a dog with such cute rolls

I lost my bulldog today at the ripe age of 20, and this video has cheered me right up. Thank you

I suppose, from my POV, the good thing is that I think purebred dogs are becoming less popular nowadays, due to our knowledge of what this sort of selective breeding can do. My girlfriend's sister has 2 Puggle mixes, and they have protruding snouts, while still looking recognisably like a pug. Its things like that, for me, that make me happy for our knowledge of this sort of thing. We need to fix the mistakes of 'fashion', and give these animals a better quality of life, instead of making them not able to breathe, live, and play.

Churro wasn’t worried about strutting down the red carpet showing off how handsome he looked after a spa visit. I hope that you will have a French Bulldog visit so you can feature him/her. I love their cuteness and how they sound almost argumentative when they “discuss” anything because their bark is so very different.

Just spreading the word: Clear the Shelters starts today (in the US, at least; I'm not sure if this is in Canada as well). Basically, NBC/Universal is sponsoring shelters nationwide to either reduce or waive adoption fees on pets in shelters, today through Sept 19. I know the shelter I'm heading off to now is waiving fees for a name-your-donation during the event.

Kennel Club - take a healthy breed and turn it into something that suffers.

My aunt and uncle train aggressive dogs for a living and they foster dogs in their spare time. They only had one foster fail and it was an English Bulldog named Ginger. She is an amazing dog and she was always so gentle and hilarious. She does this thing where if my aunt and uncle are busy and she wants to play (even though they already spent hours playing with her) she will sit on their feet and if that doesint work, she will throw her toys in the air and then look back at my aunt or uncle to see if they notice, and then she does it again, and again, until after like a few minute she gets bored and just takes a nap or plays with her tug toy. Though she does not have very good manners, she is adorable and lovable and my aunt and uncle love her. She turned 4 this year! Happy belated Birthday Ginger, I know you don’t have a phone and you can’t read but I’m saying it anyway!

I lost my English bulldog last summer at 3, everything you've described these dogs is so true and they really are the sweetest dogs out there. I miss you Roxy, I hope you get all the belly and ear rubs where ever you are.

Bulldog and pug owners love the snoring. It’s soothing.

I met bulldog at my friends house. Such a great doggo. Smelly, farts a lot, drools over your hands and his toys when you play with him. But such a charmer, friendly and kind.
