I saved a honeybee today. It was clinging onto the bottom petal of a soaking wet flower fur dear life, totally drenched in the middle of a rainstorm. I brought it in and found an empty egg carton and placed a paper towel on it with the bee on top. It absorbed most of the rain water. Then I picked a nearby flower from the same plant (a white cosmos) and put a small blob of honey in the middle of the flower and helped the bee onboard. It was exhausted but as soon as it waddled towards the flower and lapped up some honey it started to dry itself off systematically. It was the cutest thing ever. It’s fuzzy body dried out it’s stuck together wings, its legs dried it’s fuzzy body like it was making combing the hairs to make them more fuzzy, then after one more feed it started to buzz its wings and then off it went! Such a great feeling, bringing bees back from the edge of death and giving them a second wind!

What amazed me when I started keeping bees was how attached you can get to insects. GF helped but I gently handled the bees with no problems. When we broke up, she got stung 3 times the first time she worked with them.
