Mary from Mary's Nest now has a k-12 cooking curriculum. She is a wonderful resource for traditional cooking. 😊

Campfire Curriculums has a professional chef unit, yes they can be done family style but I've used several as an elective for my older kids where they do it on their own and I kept track of activities, oral dictation after each lesson and a recommended book from the book list.

Thanks for the video and ideas. Can you do a flip through of Elegant Essay?

We did Robin Hood last year through Fix it grammar and loved it. This year we are doing the next one, which I think is from The Jungle Book. We are also doing IEW's world of science writing. Thank you for these great suggestions.

I don’t have all of it figured out just yet but we also have an 8th grader next year. I WISH TT worked for my son but we are struggling through level 7 and I’m making a switch next year I think to Shormann. We use Phonetic Zoo too!

I’m gonna look into that literature study! Thanks for this video! Super helpful.

I know you have science already scheduled for this year, but perhaps look into Guest Hollow’s Chemistry in the Kitchen for your daughter next year. She may really like learning about the science behind cooking!

Love all the suggestions, I'm trying to make some science decisions for my advanced grade 5 son and my not so advanced grade 9 son, leaning towards Apologia just trying to see if I can have them both do the same course, I can't manage doing 2 different science curriculums. Some other great ideas you have that I will check out!

Physical science looks awesome!!! Nothing wrong with taking spelling slowly!!! I agree with waiting so she can count the language credit!!! I give my older kids the responsibility but only count as long as she does for credit!!! We are doing church history but Idk when as it was shelved!!!

Looks like a wonderful year! My son will be in 8th grade too. He is going to be taking Apologia Physical Science at a co-op. I had planned on using 4th edition at home, but he decided he wanted to try the co-op class even though they are using 3rd edition. I really would prefer he use the new one, but I decided to let him choose. It will be our first co-op experience and I think he’s excited about it.

Homeschooling teens with Jenny here on youtube has talked about the cooking class her kid has done and she loved it. Check out her channel. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the curriculum she used (online).

I know CLE has a home economics course that includes some cooking, although it also has a bunch of other things. But perhaps you could just buy the light units that are the cooking units.

Hello! I just LOVE all your videos and have been blessed by what you share. Thank you! Quick question, how do you handle 8th grade courses for high school credit in terms of putting it on a transcript? We use HLA, and our oldest is a rising 7th grader. Thinking ahead … 😬 any resources you may recommend on how to do a high school transcript would be very greatly appreciated! May God bless you and your family 🙏🏻❤️

👩🏼‍🍳I have my Hospitality Administration - Culinary Arts degree. Since lots of courses are geared toward older students like you said, I would check out Campfire Curriculums Professional Chef unit study.

🌟I would even add in the book My Life in France by Julia Child; Julie & Julia by Julie Powell (the movie too); and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver.

🌟If she finishes all of that, I would look into getting Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking 2 volume set. She will learn about this in the Julia Child book I recommended. Plus the Julie & Julia one as well

I saw a review on another homeschooling channel for Inquisicook. It’s a true food science course, as it teaches the why and science behind ingredients and why they behave the way they do in a recipe. Or that’s what I understand.

Right there with you on the cooking curriculum. It’s too easy or too advanced.

Easy Peasy high school has a cooking class that is a semester and there is another one they have that is also a semester I think it is called eat around the world...or something like that. They are free so that's what we are going to be doing this year. And if we get stuck or hate it, my back up is (back up #1) compass classroom has recipes you can print from their history lessons for free and also I like "tasting history with max miller" on YouTube so that would be fun to kind of cook through history and (back up #2) We watch YouTube food challenges (me and my kid) all the time. We tried a food challenge a couple of months ago where I gave her $20 and let her buy what she wanted from ALDI and I did the same with my $20 and we had a competition to see what all we could fix with what we bought and what was in the pantry. $40 can go pretty far if you know what you are doing. Anyway, we might just end of doing all kinds of food challenges and letting her be super creative.
