In 1951 Warner Brothers gave Robert Farnon the task of providing the score for the swashbuckling maritime drama 'Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N.'
Farnon had previously come to the attention of movie makers with his work on 'Spring In Park Lane' in 1948, the first important film he was to provide the music for.
He was to become a major name in film music with credits like 'Maytime In Mayfair' (1949), 'Gentlemen Marry Brunettes' (1955), 'The Sheriff Of Fractured Jaw' (1958) and Shalako' (1968).
The title music from the Horatio Hornblower movie is played by the London Festival Symphony Orchestra, Robert Farnon conducting.
The Delysé 12 inch vinyl LP was issued in 1960 (DS 6057).
The Hornblower suite occupies all of side one with Robert Farnon's
'Rhapsody for Violin and Orchestra' on side two.
Solo violinist for both works is Raymond Cohen.
The mono version of this LP has the catalogue number ECB 3157.
In the USA this LP was issued by Citadel Records (CT 7009), but not until 1979.
