One of the best sailing naval battle scenes at the time until maybe the Hornblower TV series. In my opinion.

I read "The Happy Return" a few years ago. I don't remember the battle well, but I recall the narration stated that the Natividad's superiority in firepower was countered by the skill of the Lydia's crew and officers... And the movie shows it well. On the Natividad, the captain has to micro manage everything, takes too much to understand what's happening, and shouts orders like a madman, but on the Lydia the officers keep their cool and are quick to understand what to do at any moment and the crew knows how to do.
My congratulations to director Walsh, Gregory Peck, and all the actors for the masterful job.

Spaniards in the books are terrible depicted with few historical accuracy and I would even say little racism, but in this movie all is simply absurd. The Natividad has mexican stereotyped crew with mexican accent and even ponchos. What the hell is this hahah? The flag is not historically accurate and the spanish captain says "pronto, muy pronto" (soon, very soon) instead of "rápido" (quickly) with a terrible and obvius non-spanish accent is ridiculous.
Nonetheless, I understand the limitations of the movie's time and I think is quite a good effort
