We had an 18.5 hour layover in Riga, Latvia

We love the city of Riga! The capital of Latvia has such an amazing charm, we were really happy to travel back there and share some fall vibes with you from Riga! We used a little travel hack where we find an extra long layover (18.5 hours here), to get a free stop in a city on the way to our actual destination.

We explore as much of the old town in Riga as we can during our very short stopover. We check out one of the largest public markets in Europe, see the city from the top of a beautiful church tower, and then end the evening with dinner underground in an amazing medieval-style restaurant!

Riga is definitely a hidden gem in Europe, and we hope you enjoy our quick stop in the city!

House of the Blackheads was like a corporation in those days. It was like a club of un-married merchants and sailors where they could meet, have some drink, discuss business, make deals, and so on. Latvia was a part of Hansiatic League then under German rule. Thank You for showing my native City. We, Latvians, take pride of being unique with our southern brothers and sisters, Lithuanians in language and culture. So, please, don't think of us as of some sort of Russian branch.

Glittering bling bling Katrina! I LOVE Riga! Such a beautiful city! I did a Baltic tour some years ago. All 3 capitals cities are worth visiting! Each to their own vibe. Tallinn was my favorite ( Oops my Lithuanian collegues might disagree..) Riga has a beautiful Art Nouveau district! Great vlog! Curious to learn where you guys are going next!

I was just about to ask about the long layover, but you answered my question, I am going to do a very long trip next year, I haven’t been out of Europe in 20 years🙈 so I was thinking about doing something similar as I have to have a layover somewhere but I didn’t know how to do that, good idea!😁

Y'all would be fun to travel with. I taught English in St Petersburg, Russia for three years and went to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Finland on visa runs.

We have In Latvia coffee vending machines italian Lavazza everywhere around country.. It is realy good coffee not like Americana drip coffee.. It is italian style..

Yep, we live in Latvia, in the 2nd largest city, called Daugavpils, which is 3-hours southeast of Riga, close to the border with Belarus. We're teaching English here in a smaller (70, 000 pop.), quieter, and more culturally Russian part of Latvia. After 3-months, we are finding this part of the Baltic States to be quite welcoming, affordable and located in proximity to such great and often ignored places such as Lithuania, Estonia, and even Poland. Yes, you'll need more than 18+ hours in Riga to do it justice...but thanks for a nice tour. You guys have a nice style.
