If the CVT actually held the engine at its power peak instead of faking shifts it would have been the clear winner. Like it or not, CVTs do have the potential to be the fastest transmission when they are tuned correctly.

test again when using CVT on Sport mode please. You tested it in Drive mode :)

Manual has the disadvantage of losing boost after each shift and waiting for it to slowly ramp up.

You guys are doing an amazing job of comparing cars. Everyone was saying cvt is so slow. I knew it looking at the specs. Cvt is the better choice, only may feel different.

I learn that in my cvt1.5L if you start in D and floor it then drop the shifter to S or L at right timing between 2000-3200rpms, this bypasses regulations in the turbo giving the engine more boost, improving 0-60mph time. This won't work with civics that have paddle shifters or the 2.0L! I tried this method against a si and it pretty much was neck to neck. Also make sure your using 89 test fuel or higher. Warning using this method can adds ware to the transmission and engine also can cause the engine to go into a slow (limp) mode cause of heat.

I have the CVT 1.5 with the hondata 6psi reflash. I've talked to hondata numerous times they say that the CVT will kick the shit out of the 6-speed even if both of them are tuned even doing wide open throttle shift on the 6-speed!! LOL hard for me to believe.. & sport mode doesn't make much of a difference only if you're on and off of the throttle it just raises the RPMs about 1500 higher but if you're straight on the gas that's not going to make a difference sport or drive mode.. Fyi

Fajne wideo! I was going to buy 2020 civic sport with 6 speed manual but instead I'll go with CVT. Also drive into downtown Chicago and I'm scared I'd ruin my clutch from all the stop and go traffic.

CVT Civic has been limited, , you can remap and can go to 240 kmh

so even by launching with brake boosting, the honda CVT still "shifts"... i recall on the WRX CVT, if it detects a brake boosting launch, it'll function like a real CVT without the power losing fake shifts

Good video! Thanks for posting it up.

That CVT model is not in sport mode. If you brake boost the CVT in sport mode off the line then its game over for the manual all day; Especially if its a sport hatch which is almost 500lbs lighter

manual guy here...as ive watch some vids and read regarding cvt...sad to say...cvt is much accurate than manual when shifting gears...but for adding more hp cvt will be not an option

Launch in L take then take it to S in CVT for no fake shifting youll get more torque on L making your launches quicker

How comes manual at 0:06 is going 71kmh and a half second later drops to 64kmh?

Why would you care about top speed on a small engine car? It clearly isn't designed for that. The only thing I would take in consideration is the acceleration because you need a friendly burst of speed when you engage an overtaking and you wanna do it quickly, otherwise I wouldn't mind that aspect at all. And for those arguing between automatic and manual, why argue? I believe it's pretty clear what each one was made for. Automatic for comfort and manual for those who want to have an extra activity while driving and yes, maybe better traction control, although that can be achieved on an automatic one as well if you know how to feel and drive the car.

The civic 1.5t doesn't have vtec, the accord does have a 1.5t vtec, the civic has VTC (variable timing control). No valve lift control.

I love CVT transmission. Because CVT transmission provide fuel economy and smooth drive technology. CVT forever!
