In the book "Think Like a Monk" the author Jay Shetty explains the importance of doing a companion audit. Companion audit is a process where you take certain time period like a week or month, and list all the people you spent time within that period. Then, list the values you share with each one of these people. Finally, you have to audit and check if you have given the right amount of time to the people with values that matches your values.

Values of a person are basic beliefs that allow that person to live a purposeful life. Honesty, reliability, equality, freedom are some of the examples for high personal values. Once you know your personal values, it becomes easier to make decisions in life.

People around us plays a vital role in how we live our life. If you are surrounded with people who don't live based on any personal values, you are unlikely to live with your values. If the people surrounding you have similar personal values, you are more likely to be successful in living according to your values. So, it's important that people around you have values compatible with yours.

By doing a companion audit, you can figure out people that have similar values to you. Then, you can check how much time you spend with people you share your values compared to people who don't live by any of your values. For example, if Equality is one of your values, you need to avoid spending time with people who treat others differently based on their status, wealth and education.

If the audit says you are spending more time with people who don't have your values, it's time to change and find people with your values, and spend more time with them.

So, start doing companion audits and see if you are spending right amount of time with right people in your life.
