Reversing valve / 4 way valve and heat pumps, how a heat pump work is only possible because of the 4 way / Reversing valve, the 4 way valve or Reversing valve is responsible for Reversing a heat pump system operating modes. The Reversing / 4 way valve allows a heat pump system to absorb or pick up heat from the outside / outdoor air and rejects it into the inside / indoor air in heating mode, then reverses this process for the cooling mode.

Great video! I just wanted to ask, how can I check if a 4-way valve is healthy or not using a multimeter? I would really appreciate an explanation.

Thank you! Great vid. I've removed reversing valves in package units but never residential style like this with coil directly behind it. I'm assuming you use a heat shield to prevent damaging the coil?

That's a good tip, because the tuning fork torch tip is hard to use. So I do something similar when replacing the liquid headers on the Carrier RTU with the individual metering devices on each coil tube that always plug up. You cant heat 4 or 5 tubes up all at the same time so I snip them off and then un sweat them individually. Typically in Chicago on commercial units when the reversing valve starts to stick people opt to just remove them pipe them straight and make it a conventional unit at that point and use the electric heater. Mostly see them by the lake, further in land they use retention ponds instead of air to air.

Why is the blue wire off the spade connector on the valve? Was that an accident and came off? I’m in Chicago Always wanted to work on them but not much here. If possibly do a video on thermostat wire connection.

Another YouTuber says he uses bolt cutters, but I don't know all the details.
