Oh this series is going to be very useful for when I have spun up all my wool! I want to dye the yarn and can use all the tips I can get!

I have a linen pillow cover that is just natural color but want to dye it with your onion skin method. Do I need to prep it at all? I have never done anything like this before

Thank you for the info. My girls have been wanting to try yarn dyeing. Because why not. They don't crochet/knit, but do ask me to make things for them all the time. And they want a personal yarn project.
They chicks are adorable!
Have a good day. Stay safe, stay healthy.

Just scoured a raw fleece to try natural dyeing. I like the method using a rust mordant with vinegar. On the farm we have lots of rusty metal! Don't have onions skins yet, but do have black beans and will see what happens there. Really excited to try this!

Do I have to scour store bought bare yarn sold for dying?

Hello! I have a LOT, like 2kg, of wool yarn to scour for an experiment I'm doing. I know you said "some water" and "a squirt" of the soap, but are there ballpark measurements I should target? I don't have a HUGE pot and am trying to figure out how to efficiently scour 40 fifty-gram skeins. Thank you in advance!

Protein fibers: wool, alpaca, silk, mohair, cashmere, merino, angora, yak, quiviut; anything that came from an animal, no matter what its name.

Why is it called scouring and not just washing? Is it just a different way of saying washing or is it something different?

Really informative and fun, thanks so much Laura! This is a great resource for me to share with friends when I ask them to "come scouring with me" :P
