Using wierd shapes on screws is annoying but mixing right screws with left screws with absolutely no reason is new level of not following the standards. It feels so wrong

They put that ring there to charge 100+ dollars more for a future usb c version of their products

Because the EU demands all devices be USB-C. So apple rather thn create 2 types of port. Have it all type c holes.

Usb c is cool. But I think in terms of durability the lightning port with no central construction and just a socket with all the contacts in the sides so long as its kept reasonably clean is a better design.

The metal ring around the hole is simply to protect the device from damage. If you know, someone rips the cord out, it doesn’t damage the frame and because lightning itself doesn’t technically have that outer metal shielding unlike USB-C.

The only thing apple is good at innovating these days is how to make a device non-repairable.

That's because a Lightning port IS a USB-C port. It has the exact same architecture as the USB-C standard. The difference is that Apple inverted the male/female pairs. It had two advantages: the female was in the device and therefore less likely to be damaged by wear and tear while the male would be on the cheaper, easily replaceable charging cable, and more importantly, it gave Apple a propietary module for licensing accessories since the USB-C technology is public. Just FYI for everyone wondering why iPhone 15 could easily switch to the USB-C standard long after Apple would've completed design reqs and began planning manufacturing specs.

Apple really needs to be humbled. Who agrees?

Is it possible to get a clear mod done for the iPhone Xs max

It's because in Europe they have to switch to USB-C but now they don't have to pay for new molds.
