India in Talks With Multiple African Nations to Build UPI-like Digital Payment System | Firstpost Africa

India is in talks with several countries in Africa to help them build a digital payment system similar to its homegrown Unified Payment Interface (UPI). The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which runs UPI, is reportedly in talks with at least 20 nations in Africa and South America to build a similar system. Though the authority has not revealed the names of all the nations it signed a deal with Namibia in May to help it build a real-time payment system. Rwanda is another African country with which serious discussions in this regard have happened. India is keen on sharing its UPI expertise with the world after the system's huge success domestically. India's seamless digital transaction method has gained traction globally, with the growing list of nations accepting the payment system. Watch for more.

There is many step to build this system for success. First unified identity and open bank account. Second educate people about system and dager point, Third go ahead. This system need strong support from banking system.

This can be promising in hyper inflated African countries. I imagine, circulation of currencies are facing stagnation zones. This can help circulate the flow throughout the system. It has to be a significant part of the system to be impactful. It can't be for only elite sectors. That's if India is actually trying to build a strong financial pact and not simply seeking influence with elite exploitive regions only. All tools can be exploited and what will India demand in those rules to secure its customers, users, and meaningful circulation ?
