Triple pendulum

Equations of motion are determined based on Lagrangian formula which summarizes dynamics of the entire system. Acceleration of each link can be computed by solving system of equations obtained from partial differential Lagrange's equations. Simple integration gives this nice effect. For vizualization purposes simulation is done in slow motion.

When the double pendulum is just not random enough

Sad thing the red circle never closes :(

3:00 when the furthest joint overlaps the origin is the actual most satisfying thing on the internet

A tale of the 3 brothers. The eldest stayed close to home, living a simple, yet content life. The middle brother became an artist, exploring distant lands and new ways to express his creativity. The youngest brother lived on the wild side, away from home for years at a time, always taking the less traveled path. The youngest would occasionally come home or seek advice from the eldest, before setting out again. The middle brother visited home, but was never able to visit his brothers.

Are all the dislikes from the fact the red circle doesn’t close?

Thank you. My husband, also a scientist, used your wonderful and nearly meditative video to help me to cope with anxiety. I only need worry about and attend to the outcomes of the first part, the predictable part of the pendulum, where the outcome of doing something or not doing something is relatively easy to predict, like not provoking a mama bear. From there on, after the first hinge, everything is truly unpredictable and therefore pointless to to worry about. I always knew that Physics is beautiful, but this has made such a difference to my life.

How many of u are focusing on the red circle to complete

When you let it run forever, and there is no damping, will there be any points that are never hit ? Is there a mathematical proof for that ?

It's so satisfying to see the pendulums gradually making a circular pattern

That red circle. Plus 2x speed made more sense.

Awesome ! This video nicely illustrates the history of the system with its trajectories. I assume it is a numerical model. Thanks Wojciech.

It's beautifull how It seems like a 3D image at the end

Brings a smile to my face when I see things like this. It makes you truly realize that the world really is unpredictable.

I finally understand the triple Pendulum...
The first Pendulum generates a Circle (2D),
the second Pendulum generates the 3D Equivalent of a Circle, or rather a Sphere (3D)
And the third Pendulum generates the 4D Equivalent of a Sphere.

You took a chaotic system and made it exponentially more chaotic 👏👏

Writing the motion integrals for this shit seems frickin impossible.

It's interesting how the bounding radius of the green keeps all lines it draws within that area

I want to watch this with hard metal in the background, would enhance the chaos!
