CALL ME CRAZY... but maybe we shouldn't be buying new cameras and instead invest in experience and practice!!!

Oh! If only a new camera WOULD improve my photography! I would buy a dozen!
Great lesson, David. What does improve it tremendously, is your channel. Thank you so much!

I couldn't agree more. I've been shooting on the same Nikon d610 for over 4 years now and until I break it, I'm gonna keep rocking it. I did just buy a canon m50 for video but the nikon does me just fine for stills.

Agree totally David. Invest in good glass, learn how to use a photo editing tool. The most important thing is what you frame in box. Until recently I used a 2008 Nikon D90, it still takes great images at 12.3 megapixels

Great video David. I am shooting with a Canon XSi (450D). It is 11 years old, but does the trick.

Great advice David, I am shooting with a Canon 7D, 7DmkII, 6D, and Sony A7II, all are several years old. No plans to upgrade, all still do a wonderful job with the glass I have.

Hey David your so right! Wear that thing out. My wife and I just got a couple of kayaks. Now all I’m thinking about is how to get set up for shooting from the yak without loosing everything. The first day on the water I saw so many great shots and could not do anything about it, except get excited about this new perspective. I’m also using the a6000 and need to upgrade the glass. That camera is amazing. Thanks for another great video🤠.

I just bought a Nikon D7100 a couple of months ago. Upgraded from my D2H.

I agree with your thinking too. Investing in lenses too.

Loved the vlog. Indeed I think working on creativity, and experience is more important. I am using an Canon EOS M6. APSC, 24 Megapixels. Although I toyed with the idea of upgrading to Canon RP, I kinda stopped, after realizing that I was more chasing the gear, rather than chasing the photography. The photos that I took with my EOS M6, make me happy. I do believe that your advice is very good for 95% of the enthusiast photographers. The only drawback is the impact on industry, if people are content with their gear the industry sales drop and may be even the R&D for future cameras.

Your thoughts here are spot on - but so un-American. haha . So many pro photographers fall into the gear trap. It's refreshing to see an accomplished photographer such as yourself break away from that. I'm not a pro, but completely agree with your philosophy - though it's a constant battle (lots of self talk) when we're bombarded continuously with the "buy this" philosophy. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!

My newest camera is the Nikon d5200. I am really happy with the images from it. I also shoot quite a bit on film and my two main cameras for that were made in the 70s and 80s.

Shooting with an older Sony a7. Perfectly content with this camera. I have no complaints about it.

Great advice and I totally agree. I think before buying a new camera you need to ask what it is about your camera that is limiting you. I have been using a Canon 650D since it came out and I have been totally happy with the images that I take. However I recently invested in a Canon 200D body. Not to take better images but to reduce the weight off my kit. I have severe arthritis in my spine and carrying my usual body and three lenses plus tripod off cause acute pain in my back by the end of the end. Now I have a lighter body and I am using one lens (18-135mm STM). I still get great images but my back is much relieved at the lower weight of my backpack.

I carry a Pentax istDL and shoot with it almost daily it is a 2005 model 6mp bought it new i learned how to work around its limitations. I can still get amazing photos with and if it gets stolen i have seen the same camera on E bay for as little as $40.00 so no great loss .

My D7100 is not 5 yrs old yet, but the 7200, 7500, and D500 have come out since..and I dont care :)..I buy quality used lenses with my $, and most of my improvements have come from experimenting with flash..love controlling the light..once again David, you are spot on..thanks !

Agree on what you say. However, sometimes, you need to upgrade if your camera is too old. I am still using my first camera since 2014: Nikon D7000 which was released in 2010. But i feel it is time to upgrade to better sensor, more resolution (instead of 16), better iso performance, and man the tilting screen makes me so excited about camera like Z6.

I absolutely agree 100%!! I saved and saved and saved for a Nikon D800 (which I love!), but I had to master the equipment to get solid results. An inexperienced photographer can make just as bad images as they could with a cheap camera as well as good images.
