Really good tip.
I used to use a similar technique by bringing the highs in first, mid then low.
It sounded good but seemed to lose body in the tracks sometimes.
This is a far better technique that has taken my mixing to another level, my transitions sound amazing! Thanks for the tip!

Funny, I’ve been mixing like that for years but never really thought about why other than it sounded better to my ears. A lot of learning EQ is just messing around with it, if it sounds good, you’re doing something right :) I also like to keep a little low end when mixing in a track. Unless it really clashes with the playing track, it gives a little boost in the energy, and tells people something is about to happen, that can sometimes get the crowd more hyped.

This sounds like a really useful tip. The only thing I'm wondering, since there wasn't a live demo with another track, is how best to use the technique when mixing into the next track? Would you swap the highs and lows while leaving the mids the same, or would that cause them to fight too much?

Do you bring the incoming song in with mid down and the highs and lows up to compensate for the space you are taking with miss all the way up on the out going?
