Welcome to a new series on my channel. In this series I will be training a German Shepherd Dog named Harley to be a service dog.

In episode one I will be teaching Harley the first ten steps that I follow when training a service dog. These steps do not include socializing or confidence building. These steps are for obedience, as it's important for a service dog to always be obedient.

Thank you SO very much for providing this video for free. I am a vet and I have PTSD and I have a dog that I rescued from and abusive owner. She is very attentive and I think with your help I'm going to be able to train her to be my service dog and rescue both her and myself and free us to have a more normal life. Again, THANK YOU

I tried for hours to get my dog to lay down on my own, I was losing it. Then I used your method and it took 10 minutes. Thank you so much!

I am going to be obtaining a service dog, a standard poodle. I will be training him myself for ptsd, dissociations, and anxiety. I would love to see videos on training to buffer in crowds, training for anxiety attacks, and deep pressure therapy. This would help me immensely due to me having to train him myself. He already knows basic obediance with commands only. Very smart and motivated learner!

It's neat to watch this puppy grow with every lesson

I'm an Army veteran with PTSD and all the stuff that goes along with it. I rescued an beautiful yellow lab/shepherd mix who has an amazing personality. Very sweet and is about 4 to 5 months old. I've had her for 1 month and really just spent that time bonding as she's never been in a house and had no idea how to be a puppy. We've mastered potty training and we've started with luring then sitting. I'm training her myself for my service dog with plans to take her to college with me. I have learned so much from watching your videos. Her task that's going to be trained is pressure therapy when my anxiety kicks up!

I have watched dozens of training videos and even paid $100 for an online course, but I was still completely lost on how to train my 12-week-old puppy. In the first 7 minutes of your video, you solved my problem. I’ve definitely subscribed to learn more from your videos. Congratulations on your amazing work!

I must say that being a grad student and with the lockdown I made the decision to get a pup a few months and videos like yours are so helpful. Ive never realized how much of training my pup would actually be training myself and staying disciplined. Additionally, I was looking for companionship which I found plus more. While training I feel like our bond and love for each other strengthens and honestly at the end of the day thats what everyone wants- the idea of connecting with another. When she does learn commands and listens to me it is probably more rewarding to me than her haha!

You may say that you help people train their dogs, but a mentality like yours with the energy you have in your videos is so infectious that I can see this passion spill into other areas of my life as I continue to grow as a person!

Thank you so much!

The way you explained the reasoning and what's happening in the dog's brain was incredibly clear and let me understand really why you were doing what you're doing. I've been a teacher of humans for much of my career, but when I get a dog soon, I'll be referring back to your videos a lot I'm sure as we train together :-) thank you, Nate!

Finding this so helpful!! I have a rescue who's two years old, but I'm going back to puppy basics with her so she can learn that training is about fun - not being yelled at or physically abused.
Hoping all the hard work and stimulation can help reduce her anxieties in general :)

I have sifted through a lot of dog trainers and techniques through my lifetime of dog ownership. Nate’s system works better than any of them! Get your steps and timing down and you will have success. I’m so thankful to Nate for his dedication and willingness to share so much content that actually works. I had a zoom private lesson with him. I highly suggest you do this because even when you think you are doing it right, there is probably an important nuance you have missed. Just one lesson rocketed me and puppy to the next level. My puppy, Monty, is four months old and now does all of these commands, (and more) in the video! I have never before had such success training a dog. Thanks Nate! (Susan Thompson)

Awesome training 👍 I grew up with at least three dogs in the household and I was the designated trainer throughout my life owning in training so many of my own family dogs. My last dog which was a labrador was my masterpiece! he went surfing with me, snow skiing with me, hiking, bouldering, high diving and fishing! I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a few things because I ran out of things to teach this dog! He could identify 10 different toys and pick out the one I asked for on demand, get food and drink out of the refrigerator and close the door. He would open the front door of the house on demand when my friends came over and then I would ask him to go get them beers out of the refrigerator. He would go and get a beer for myself and my friends! It was a riot my friends couldn't believe it!!! There's just so much more I did with my dog he went everywhere with me. was always a topic of conversation and people were always amazed at the things he would do and how he would pretty much read my mind. we began new routines on different scenarios all the time with high-fives and jumping into my arms on command and he was a 70 lb dog! Fortunately I'm big enough to handle catching him 😁🐶 I digressto watching how you train this dog and your methodology, smart.
anyhow I'm looking to get my next dog and doing a bunch of research on the types of dogs that I like and what I will be doing with him or her. I'm also a traumatic brain injury survivor so actually I'm thinking to experiment with training my next dog to really serve traumatic brain injury survivors like. My last Labrador was the best gift that I was given the year after I had a traumatic brain injury. He was a huge factor in my healing and really connected in a way that I had never been connected to an animal before. He was my Shadow 🐶 he he lived a long and healthy life, 15yrs!!

I’m getting my service dog prospect in a couple months, I’ve never had a dog before so I’m VERY nervous. This video has helped me feel more prepared and like I can actually do this!

I got my little Golden girl 11 days ago, and I already feel like a terrible parent. She really gets going with the jumping and biting just to mention a couple of issues. I’ll be watching your videos for help with her. Thank you so much!! I also got my puppy for a companion for my PTSD issues. I don’t want to let her down by not training her properly.
