That's simply a totally different story than in the book. I don't like it, because the book is so much better.
Artemis is a pale and weak boy, but he's so clever that you have to respect him. Since his birth he's guarded by a huge Eurasian named Butler, who's skillfull in the use of multiple weapons but also knows a hundred ways to bring you to death within seconds without using any of them. Artemis is after the gold of the underground ones. He wants to restore the fortune of his family. His mother lays in bed and is mentally ill since the disappearence of Artemis' father. Artemis father is a crime king and Artemis is not slightest bit ashamed of it. In fact he has no skruples to get what he wants.

They ruined the fact Artemis Fowl was an absolute Mad Lad that conned nearly the entire fairy race woke his Mother from a Coma using the Fairies that he conned and has a body guard that can 1v1 a Troll which according to the fairies should be impossible

They totally botched it. The appeal of it was that AF was absolutely not ashamed or guilty about doing crime to get what he wants. Most importantly, he took the initiative to find the fairies, not this abomination where it was fed to him and the whole thing revolving around old unresolved shit from his father. He should’ve made himself something unique, not daddy 2.0.
