The Biles I remains one of the rarest floor acrobatic elements in Women’s Gymnastics. It has only been performed by Simone Biles, London Phillips, Trinity Thomas, Brie Clark and Hilary Heron.

Trinity‘s is definitely a different skill. What a cool skill

Oh I love Trinity's version! The forward somersault out is so beautiful :)

When I first started watching gymnastics (RECENTLY btw, like this year), seeing this skill was magic to me. She does it so quickly that you can't even see the half turn, she just magically enters the flip one direction and comes out facing the other. It's so cool.

Nobody does this skill as beautifully as Simone

This was fun to watch. I love how Trinity does her twist mid salto and makes it a front layout. I am so excited she is training to return to elite for the olympic year. I love how the college athletes are redifining gymnastics again. 2024 is going to be such an exciting year for the sport.

I remember the first time I saw it during 2013 worlds. It was simply a double layout but the the half turn took me by surprise so much I had to rewind because I didn't get what happened.
It's still one of my favorite skills, specially the way Simone does it with the half turn so late it look like she magically just landed backwards.

I remember when Trinity did that skill and people were like idk what that is but it's not the Biles haha I think it looks cooler honestly

You knew that this young lady would have an exceptional career (barring any major injuries or worse of course) when at her VERY FIRST World competition she successfully got a skill named after her. Yes, Simone was destined for greatness and ten years later she is still doing great things. I love the fact that the Biles 1 on floor was performed TEN YEARS later in the SAME CITY and arena by someone else other than Simone though because I had always hope to see Simone inspiring others to try her skills.

That Hillary Heron was confident and able to do so twice now internationally bodes well for her I think and I look forward to see who else would follow. I would love for Trinity to do her version on an international stage as well whether it could be called the Biles 1 or not, she is a very beautiful gymnast to watch.

More than anything, I look forward to Simone stamping her name some more in the COP. All hail the QUEEN!

Trinity’s version is a laid out “back-in, Arabian-out”. It’s basically between a Biles 1 and a Dos Santos 2. But the timing of the twist makes it a unique skill. If she ever competes this internationally, I would credit it as a different skill (called a “Trinity” since there’s already a different, banned skill called the “Thomas”).

The FIG is very inconsistent with the naming and classification of certain skills. For example, a double layout, full-out is called a Chusovitina, however a double-layout, full-in is also commonly referred to as a Chusovitina even though it’s clearly a different skill. A full twist on the second somersault is more difficult, yet they are given the same rating. Yet, a Dos Santos 2 (laid out double Arabian) is considered a different skill than a Biles 2 (double layout, half-out) and given a different rating. This makes sense as twisting earlier gives you a forward rotation which is more difficult.

Speaking of Arabian skills, another inconsistency would be how these skills are rated differently in men’s gymnastics than women’s. In MAG, Arabian skills are considered “backward” skills because the entry is backwards. Thus, they are rated as less difficult than forwards entry somersaults. But in WAG, Arabian skills are considered “forward” skills because the landing is forward and blind. I don’t agree with this because a double Arabian is clearly much easier to execute than a standard double front. This is true regardless of apparatus as well. A Produnova off beam for example is more difficult than a Patterson off beam. So their logic is very inconsistent when it comes to rating Arabian skills, and distinguishing skills that initiate a twist at a different point in the somersault.

I am absolutely amazed by these young ladies. The dedication and courage it has to take to achieve that level of excellence is incredible. I watch gymnastics every time I can catch it on tv or online.

I much prefer the Biles I to the full or double twisting double layouts. It’s way more elegant. Those with more twists just look messy and you can no longer appreciate the beautiful laid out shape.

Trinity Thomas’s move is amazing too and deserves to be its own skill, if she can get to an international competition.

That's just a crazy move. These gymnasts defy the laws of gravity.

Notice how all of them are Black young women. This Biles 1 is super special in my opinion.

The Biles I is a double layout with a half turn, no specification on where the twist needs to happen, so while Trinity's is unique, it is still a Biles I

Maybe Trinity Thomas should have her own Eponymous .It's SO different - is it a new skill, , , ?

While the last girl completed the the move, her legs are not together after the second turn going into the twist, and she would continually get deductions for that, but I applaud all these young ladies for completely such a difficult and beautiful move.

Thomas competed what should be the Thomas, tbh. it's 1.5 layout to full layout.
