Huge crowds lined the streets of Tokyo to pay their last respects to ex-Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated last week.

The 67-year-old was shot dead on Friday while speaking at a campaign event in the southern city of Nara.

On Tuesday, a hearse carried Abe's body through the capital and past landmarks to the funeral hall where he was then cremated.

A private funeral had been held earlier at the Zojoji temple.

1:21 It was extremely disrespectful to do your reporting as the hearse drove by. Shame on you, BBC.

My condolences to Mr. Abe's family and friends. He led Japan for years and it is clear how much people cared about and supported him by the crowd there.

in the moment the coffin drives past the BBC reporter should have shown the minimum amount of respect and keep his mouth shut. not only did he fail in doing so, but also talked negatively about Shinzo Abe by bringing up controversies. I would have thought that a BBC reporter would conduct himself to higher standards than this.

Why was that reporter talking to the camera while the vehicle was coming towards him? I'd say that's rather disrespectful and he should have spoke after the vehicle passed

First of all, I send my condolences to his family. Walking in their shoes, I am lost for words. Unlike so many politicians around the world, he was not attention seeking at all, rather cool as a cucumber under a lot of pressure and stress. We all Japanese were literally shell shocked to learn of his passing and still feel a large void in our hearts while a new page in Japanese history is opening. As I stare at a picture that Mr. Abe and I once took together by chance and then out of the windows of my house, I feel a lump in my throat.

I am a Japanese citizen. I'm so sad I can't stop crying. There were criticisms of politics, but he was a wonderful Prime Minister. We realize his greatness after he's gone.

As someone who lives in a country where we always hated our politics, it's very interesting to see how emotion Japan was with Abe's ceremony. He was truly loved and very good for his country.
