This (toshiba 40E300U1) has broken CCFL lights. We can fix this by upgrading our TV into and LED TV.

here is the ebay link for the LEDS

If you have any question please comment.

I know im late bit i think if you would have got a large white piece of poster board and cut out the holes for the leds so it would be a consistent white surface reflecting it would have made the picture a lot better.. this is an awesome idea i just thought of this and im glad to see someone has already tried it.. but also you can make yor own diy light strips for any tv basically this way if yours are hard to come by so either way its still a great idea..

thank for great vid. It looks like the first led of each of your bars in seriesnis a little brighter than the rest? I have a 10 year old tv with cathode - the display is good but when I unhook the inverter it doesn't stay on... this could be a solution if I can get around that prob.

I am just completing a project - have similar spots even though I have a voltage adjuster circuit set at max brightness- I think that I am running too few led lights - 40 inch using 4 rows of 7 ( probably should be 6rows of 13) given the pattern of darkspots onscreen. Not sure if bringing the leds closer to the diffuser / white panel will help me.

Aren’t CCFLs often coated in mercury on the outside making them dangerous to handle? (Not just mercury gas inside)

It's great that you made this video. I was having the same idea. If it works good enough no reason too throw it away. Have you tired some sort of diffuser sheet? or tried matching the leds.

Thanks for sharing, my question is: did you have to cancel the inverter shutdown circuit?

The leds are the wrong distance from the diffuser and lcd screen. It looks like you need another 1 to 2 cm, maybe less (at a guess). The little plastic domes haven't got the right angle to throw the light out sideways enough before it hits the diffuser.

Thank you for doing this video. However, you commented on 8 bulbs would be better which is 8 x 3.3 v = 26.4 volts and you installed 7 bulbs which 21 volts and you said it would be extra bright which is confusing because the 8 bulbs would be brighter. Can you also explain as far as the positive wire from the led bulbs should it be soldered to the positive 24 voltage on the power supply board because it looks like you just put the wire into the cable and that looks like it would be very loose and it can disconnect easily. Thank you my name is Heidy and I am a female techie

How do you know the forward driving current that your led's are built for/ what is typical for those particular led's? 1.8 amps total current draw seems to be about 360 mA draw through each parallel stretch of led's and I was under the impression that most led's typically require 20-50 mA (although I don't fully understand led electronics). Would this not burn out your led's? So do you need to add a resistor into each parallel section? I'd appreciate some clarification as I am attempting something similar but am struggling to get my head around it (especially since my led's don't have a quoted current rating). Thanks a bunch. Great video btw.

nice video but may I ask if the backlight DIM is working too or not?

Hi there!
I came in here looking for the opposite: remove the LED from a monitor to make it an LCD. This is for a friend who gets migraines from anything with an LED.

It is not absolute correct to connect tv led strips in parallel for three reasons.1)The current consuption is multiplied the number of strips.2)There is on equal current flow on each strip due to differences between strips even if are the same type.3)The led are constant current devices so need precise constant regulation because current rises over the time and the temperature and even a small voltage variation causes large current flow variation through the leds.Maybe it works but it will not last. The correct connection is in series having a backlight inverter in boost mode with constant current monitoring since raising the voltage is more economy than current because every Watt that consumed comes a lot cheaper.

Hi,
Great video & insight. I have similar issue & would like to do something similar to my 60 inch Samsyng TV. I am thinking of purchasing the LED strips and bypassing the inverters. I am unsure of the VCC output of my power supply output (not listed like yours) to properly size my LED circuits. I gonna try googling the part number, and last resort measure the supply output. I plan on using LED stripes in series or parallel depending the ps output . Since the over current protection circuir is probably on the inverter board & being bypassed, I will probably want to underpowered my LEDs to yield longer life. Max number of LEDs run at a lower voltage . Appreciate your thoughts & suggestions. TIA

Adjust the brightness. Don't put it on 100% make it 70% so you can't see those spots.
