For English speakers, Spanish is easier to learn than Japanese or Russian. But it’s not as easy as people here tend to say. I’ve seen lots of English speakers say it was easy to learn. Well, in this video, I’ll explain my perspective about the most difficult things.

Para los angloparlantes, el español es más fácil de aprender que el japonés o el ruso. Pero no es tan fácil como la gente aquí suele decir. He visto a muchas personas decir que fue fácil aprenderlo. Pues, en este video, les explico mi perspectiva sobre lo más difícil de este idioma.

Por eso he descubierto que el inglés es mucho más fácil de aprender y que tengo suerte de tener como lengua nativa el español, ahora el tema de que el inglés no se traduce si no que se interpreta pq si lo traduces es un despapaye jajaja. Me encantaron tus videos.

La pronunciación del español es muy sencilla, ya que la fonética es simple y sobre todo porque hay tanta redundancia que aunque te equivoques con algún fonema, se te sigue entendiendo (eso no ocurre con el inglés o el francés).

Lo peor del idioma español son los verbos son un infierno con el subjuntivo, varios tipos de pasado, etc., sobre todo si vienes de una lengua germánica (los italianos en cambio lo tienen bastante fácil en este sentido porque los suyos son bastante parecidos). Y luego hay otros detalles jodidos que casi ningún extranjero llegará nunca a hacer bien del todo, por ejemplo el uso de "por" y "para", o algunas construcciones con pasiva refleja.

Actually, as a Spanish native speaker when I got to know (in highschool) about all the specific rules of the language it did seem beautiful but painful af. I realized that the biggest part of my speaking ability was out of habit and not really knowing the specific rules or structures. Just thinking about people having to actually speak just knowing those rules... my eye is twitching xD Actually a considerable amount of classmates couldn't approve the exams or the entire course.

I agree with you about most you have said, except the SUBJUNCTIVE. First, it is not just Spanish which uses it, all Latin languages use it (Portugues, French, Italian...) Second, in English, at least in grammar terms, the idea of subjunctive exists too, but there is not a tense for it, instead you use different other tenses or expressions to replace it, which, believe me, for Spanish speaking people may be a nightmare. I am going to paste the same text I sent to another English speaking person complaining about it:

Hola. Una observación. El tiempo verbal al cual haces referencia después de expresar "deseo" o "duda", etc. Se llama SUBJUNTIVO. Presente del Modo Subjuntivo. El tema es que en inglés ese tiempo verbal NO EXISTE, y yo te digo que sería mejor que existiera, porque en inglés existe la "idea de subjuntivo" y el GRAN PROBLEMA es que se reemplaza generalmente por el PAST SIMPLE, pero NO SIEMPRE!! ...y eso a los que aprendemos inglés nos vuelve locos. Te doy algunos ejemplos: I wish he came to my party (Deseo que él VENGA a mi fiesta) Aquí el caso típico que lo reemplazo por el PAST SIMPLE, pero no siempre es así, por ejemplo en inglés se dice: I want him TO COME to my party (Yo quiero que él VENGA a mi fiesta) y aqui es un TO-INFINITIVE, y si digo "I hope he WILL COME to my party" (Espero que él VENGA a mi fiesta) y aquí es un SIMPLE FUTURE (Future with WILL) Y así, en inglés, tengo que ir viendo caso por caso, según el verbo que le precede, cómo voy a decir ese siguiente verbo. Entonces, cuál es más difícil? I wish you WOULD HAVE a Subjunctive Tense (Aquí hay otro caso más, UFA!!) Saludos de Oscar, desde Buenos Aires, Argentina.



PD: For the rest, English is EASIER than Spanish. (Ah, I forgot PHRASAL VERBS... another NIGHTMARE!" I am sure you don´t know all of them either). Learning foreign languages is great (I also speak French, a little Italian and I understand Portugues, but can´t speak, and then it is German.... oh, German... My God! I gave up! That was too much for me! German defeated me!!

Tal vez la gramática del español sea un poco complicada para el anglofono, pero en cambio la pronunciación es muy sencilla. Solo hay 5 vocales.

Es bueno escuchar la radio para aprender sin memorizar, justo como los niños aprenden.

Como todos los idiomas tienen su parte difícil, en el caso de Español son los artículos y el género de las palabras, las conjugaciones etc. Pero su parte fácil es su fonética, se escribe y se lee como se escucha. En cambio inglés su parte dificl es su fonética, porque se escribe totalmente diferente a como se escucha, y con lo escrito sucede igual, su parte fácil del inglés es su estructura gramatical, es muy simplififcado, eso hace que el inglés lo puedas aprender bien auque no estés viviendo entre las personas que lo hablan.

Es divertido ver a todos los ingleses intentando hablar español, entiendo que les sea difícil porque una palabra puede tener muchos significados y el español se habla bastante rápido.
Me encantaría ayudar a los ingleses a hablar este idioma pero aún no conozco a nadie que me lo allá pedido.

Tienes toda la razón sobre el español Aly, pero yo también sufro cuando escucho hablar en inglés y no entiendo casi nada; especialmente el ingles de las películas y series americanas. Entiendo más cuando habla un hablante de Inglaterra o un extranjero que aprendió el inglés.

I've been learning english for a long time, and a while ago I realized that I was starting to get diminishing returns. It was taking me a lot of effort just to get a little better at it, there was always something I was gonna get wrong. Now I'm just happy I can communicate and be understood by english speakers, I'm not too worried about making mistakes anymore. I feel like it's the same with spanish, does it really matter if you say estaba or estuve? You'll probably be understood either way.

My first language is English, and I can agree with you. Spanish has been hard for me too! I learned Portuguese kind of well before I learned Spanish, so I think that helped a lot. I noticed how you talked about the word "si" and that it causes the Subjunctive in Portuguese. In my experience, it usually translates to like, if. I didn't really have a lot of trouble with the ser and estar stuff, but I agree with you on everything else. And I'm not even close to being fluent yet!

Ningún idioma es fácil si tú base es diferente., por ejemplo quien habla inglés, alemán, suizo etc se le hace fácil… mientras que cualquier idioma romance se le hace fácil a quien tiene una base del “latín”, para mi inglés (aunque lo hablo por 30 o más años) la pronunciación es súper difícil, sin dejar de decir que inglés nunca se aprende a leer… aprendes a memorizar… y la gramática no tiene reglas .. cualquier idioma romancé una vez te aprendes las reglas… el leer es súper fácil
