I never understood why the country DIDN'T split up into ethnic nation states

The tragedy is that South Africa could have been divided. Afrikaners could get a homeland. The ANC would get theirs. South Africa is a mess right now because of the ANC.

I stayed in South Africa for some time. It's already collapsed with the phenomenal degree of corruption. The country has so rich with natural resources, but the past and current government failed to manage effectively.

One fact about history is that they never tell you Nelson Mandela was a communist

I'm pretty sure it has already collapsed in all but name already.

That was well explained and put exactly how it happened, without any other external influences in the basic history of South Africa. Born in 1982 I remember as a young boy how a lot of this story played out. Unfortunately now the ANC government has plundered and destroyed this country and they have turned out to be the real down fall of South Africa.

South African here. And unfortunately most of us are expecting South Africa to collapse in the coming years and for a full civil war to break out. With the rampant corruption having destroyed our country's economy and political leaders like Julius Malema stoking racial fires. Going as far as to defend the farm murders. So yeah, things aren't good

If Britain did not interfere, the Cape region with have been a sovereign, peaceful country. There were no blacks, only Koi San living in that area. The UK formed the idea of Apartheid in 1901. UK disrupted South Africa forcing the whites to move inland and collided with the black nations. There were constant wars between the black nations too. There are 11 official languages in South Africa, it shows the diversity. The UK killed one third of the white people, even women in children. when gold was discovered in South Africa. That was called the Boer War. The Boers nation consisted of Netherlands, French Huguenots and Germans. They are a highly developed group of people with amazing initiative. Under Apartheid, the life expectancy of the black African people were 62 years. . Now, under Mandela 's failing communist Party, it is only 42 years. There are constant black outs, limited electricity. The once prosperous country, is on a downward spiral.

That post-9/11 bit has one key flaw. South Africa in this scenario is allied with Israel and the US is as well. South Africa would more likely see this as an opportunity to get back into the good graces of the US. After all, Libya of all places was made into a US ally because of 9/11, so why not South Africa?

This is by far one of the most accurate videos I have seen on South African history. You have literally explained most of a history that took me almost 10 years to learn through college studies, documentaries, and a ton of reading. There are a few more things I wish you added but they are more minor details so they don't matter. Good

In almost every country on earth, whilst learning it’s history you will hear “then the british showed up” and then things go downhill.

As someone from South Africa, this is a very good and informative video.

P.S. “Xhosa” is pronounced khosa. x = k

Zulu and Xhosa are not native to South Africa, they immigrated from the North. You have to get this one straight before making history lessons. The natives were the San and they were nomads and by the way were also attacked from the Zulu and Xhosa (and other) immigrants

I was born in South Africa in 92 but have spent most of my life elsewhere. It's strange to think about all the conflict that was going on there just prior to my birth. I remember some racial tension but overall it seemed to be a peaceful period, though I was only a kid and I suppose I must've been shielded from a lot of it.

Actually, South Africa should have been divided into atleast 2 nations in the 90s.
