Retailers deceiving customers and denying people the right to repair their own products is a glorified extortion racket. Product fit for purpose is the key, when designers deliberately design stuff to fail to increase profitability you know your being screwed over.

Scotty, you should do a collaboration with Louis Rossman, he specializes in right to repair activism and electronic repair, and it would be interesting to hear you guys exchange words!

As a previous jeep owner hearing about car and driver rating it higher is hilarious. Just expect every problem

I would not trade my 2012 4Runner for any new Kia, Hyundai or Jeep...just put 10K miles traveling USA in 2 months...just put gas & go, go, go...I literally love that truck...went through flooding & tornado type storms (Georgia in April), high winds, snow (Yellowstone, Montana) & hot Florida weather...all in comfort & safety...marketing is a liars profession...you tell them Scotty!

If you think about it, all of these car manufacturers hate the idea of us consumers fixing our own vehicles.

Kia and Hyundai ahead of a Toyota 4Runner…hilarious. 4Runners are boss, period. True 4Runner owners and people who really know vehicles know that.

Man if I had to choose which way Tesla took the L, I'd much prefer it be on right to repair. They don't seem like bad cars, so Cali trying to put them out of business as some sorta revenge for them moving operations out of state seems just as anti-consumer as anything Apple or Tesla have pulled.

While technically savvy people realised that the Tesla autopilot was limited, there's no rule that wealthy people have to be technically savvy … or even smart.

[I know several people who built up fortunes and live in mansions, they can barely operate a smartphone and I'm always being called to troubleshoot]

FSD (BETA) beta means the software isn’t ready to be trusted and everyone who uses it knows it is beta and their input is used to improve the software to the point that the developer is ready to release it to general use.

Autopilot: I am a retired airline pilot. Autopilots are NEVER used without CONTINUOUS monitoring by one and most of the time both pilots. If you think it would be acceptable for a crew to engage an autopilot and one pilot go to sleep while the other goes to the cabin you are misinformed. And we would see smoking holes all over the world.

FSD BETA / Autopilot are two terms that are precisely accurate. If some in the world are ignorant they can be educated, if they are stupid

My Army buddy and I changed the engine in my Vega without any kind of hoist. The two of us just lifted it out and gently lowered the new one in.

I had an old GEO Metro. Needed an new motor. 3 cylinder. I used my own hands to take out the old motor and put in the new one. The new motor was junk as well. Burned oil like crazy. Then the transmission went out. Gave it to the junk yard.

When retracting pistons, clamp the flex line, open the bleeder and push the piston back. Like you said, don't let the fluid go back up to the ABS system or master cylinder.

They will not lose their right to sell in CA. The max that can happen is they have to notify people about what the words mean currently basically.

Speaking of crappy cars, have you done any content on all the bad parts being sold to consumers, from cheap to quality makers, sending out defective and bad QC parts for all cars, especially from the 1950's to the 1990's?

I have heard a lot of mechanics are leaving the trade because so many are getting bad reptuations from parts that last a few months.

I have a 2017 4 runner with 109000 mi. Oil changes, brakes and scheduled maintenance only. No doubt it will have 200k before any problem.
At 109000, a hyundai or kia is almost ready for the scrap yard.

Car review magazines and websites can get away with phony bologna rankings because they base it off of "initial quality" not long-term quality. So, even if a car is made with cheap crap, it can still rank highly if it has nice fit and finish with shiny new gizmos.
