Before the 7th century a Mesoamerican could go anywhere without paying cause they hadn't figured out how to make them pay for it yet
This all stopped when they discoverd Toll-tech

The main issue with Native American history is the fact that they mix any history if even left with a lot of mythology

I honestly agree with the culture aspect as well as I compare it to the Maya with numerous city states belonging under a similar culture.

If there was an empire, then it probably wasn't unified and rather just the most prominent city state that dominated the others

Short and precise, thanks
Also, is better to call them mexicas and not Aztecs, but I get that is the most popular way

My illustrated ancient book when I was a kid referred to the Toltecs as a culture that interacted with the Maya- sometimes war sometimes raising a city together. I don't recall them ever getting a spot on the map, but the book did point out a site where they had built things with the Mayans.

Maybe such a culture was led by a religious caste, who the Aztecs of the time *actually* recorded as being the “Tolteca”, and to *them* they were less of an empire, and more simply a migratory group of, as you mentioned, “wise folk” who had a great deal of cultural and religious influence.
Perhaps the Tolteca were, to the Aztecs and other Mesoamerican peoples of Central America, similar to what the Druids were to the oldest tribes of Bretons, Gauls, and other Celts.

Heard this on your video yesterday and was left with questions. You have answered them. Thank you

So they’re just Aztec version of the indo-Europeans? Except at least the Toltecs actually have evidence to be at least something.

The toltecs: empire of artists or artistic empire?, this is the question we need to know.

What more than likely happened
to a lot of these ancient native groups is that they assimilated with time into more present native groups. Especially with how dense the jungles of Mexico are.
