Fun fact the most common flower in the beak of a plague doctor’s mask (I forgot the name right now) actually had antibacterial properties making it a very primitive (but good) air filter and the waxed leather boots and robes were quite protective against fleas making it so they just slipped off so this and other practices like staying away from people gave plague doctors a very good chance of not catching the plague.
