AM is short for amplitude modulation, which refers to the means of encoding and embedding the audio signal on the high frequency carrier in its amplitude. AM radio stations are known as "mediumwave" stations. They are also sometimes referred to as "standard broadcast stations" because AM was the first form used to transmit broadcast radio signals to the public. Many AM stations are used to have ground wave propagation and tropospheric reflected propagation. It covers a smaller area in the ground around transmitter antenna.
The frequency of transmission for Amplitude Modulation .1.For Medium wave 550kc to 1650 kc.2.For short wave from 3000kc to 30000kc/s. Sometimes the frequencies are mentioned as wave length in meters.
