What is Complex Regional Pain Syndrome?

Complex regional pain syndrome is a chronic pain condition that affects arms and legs and is more common in women between the ages of 40 and 60.

It has been known by many names in the past including reflex sympathetic dystrophy, sudeks atrophy, and shoulder hand syndrome.

The condition is most often caused by trauma to the arm or leg either after a break or from surgery. Complex regional pain syndrome can be very complex to diagnose and treat.

Treatments can range from physical therapy to various types of nerve blocks or even surgery. After treatment it is possible to be free from this type of debilitating pain.
