Physics Demo: Will the Top or Bottom String Break First?

Показать описание
Here is a great demo for you to try. Suppose a 500 gram mass has two strings attached to it. One string is connect to the top to pull up and there is a string below that I can pull on.

If I pull on the bottom string, which string will break?

My guess is because how fast you pulled the strings. Since theres a lot of mass involved, the resistance force of inertia applies right more on one string?

There's like a narrative arc which says impulse doesn't overcome the inertia of the second weight. However, this is inconsistent if you look at other experiments, such as fire in a jar. Which is why I say that it's a narrative arc. On a quantum level you have a mess of alternate hypothesis, but actually what we're seeing is an effect of proscriptive, inductive logic (Devil trying to have its cake and eat it too)
