Operation Meghdoot: India's 40th Siachen Anniversary

India recently commemorated 40 years of its control over the Siachen Glacier with the anniversary of 'Operation Meghdoot,' launched on April 13, 1984. This operation was initiated in response to Pakistan's cartographic aggression in Ladakh and aimed to thwart Pakistan's efforts to legitimize its claim on Siachen. The Indian Army strategically secured heights on the glacier through troop deployment, with vital support from the Indian Air Force (IAF). Despite extreme climatic challenges, the IAF's helicopters play a crucial role in logistics and evacuating the sick from the highest battlefield. Various IAF aircraft, including Rafale and Su-30MKI, continue to support 'Operation Meghdoot,' ensuring India's control over the 78 km-long glacier.
