Siachen Galcier; why is it so important for India to be in the Siachen Glacier? In this video I have tried to explain the strategic geographical location of Siachen glacier and a little bit of historical insight into Operation Meghdoot carried out by the Indian Army in 1984 and how India managed to take control of these strategic mountains that is now the highest battlefield of the world.
I have also discussed about Kargil war of 1999, Siachen's strategic importance with respect to India-China border conflict, the environmental challenges and what's the way forward here. I have planned to make a series of videos on India's unique geographical features, their Geo-strategic advantages and challenges. Siachen is first of the series.
