Generally if your German shepherd is a pure bred. You will get a birth certificate/ pedigree form that lists its family tree.

Hi, good vid..my GS is great, that infamous heavy bark which frightens strangers and we have many happydays together but my query is this; He is one and a half years old and seems to be frightened of dogs who stand up to him even chihuahuas and dachshunds etc but dogs who run away he will chase down. We don't use a leash as he is well known and everybody loves him that is only in the park we go to..we believe him to be purebred maybe I can send you a photo but no avenue for that here

The dog at 1:50 is a very good example of a good strong dog with legs stability, the other ones you are showing are slope backed/ banana backed examples of the breed, not good for body mechanics to function properly

1:54 see the hump in the back, just in front of the pelvis? That is a spinal deformity -not a good example of GSD
1:56 -7 good fluid movement, good body mechanics, fine specimen outwardly
2:01 very poor example of breed - good example of spinal deformity
2:18 good example, good back & rear leg angulation, good fluid, strong movement
2:38 good enough specimen
2:44 bowed back causes too much angulation in rear legs causing stress on hips & leg joints

Mine has a straight back. I cannot stand the sloped look it’s so mean to keep breeding them with back slopes. Bad for their hips

We did DNA testing on our jet black "wolf" to make sure he wasn't a wolf. Turns out he's full GSD on his dad's side, mix of american terrier and other on his mom's side. He's 100 lbs, acts like a GSD and is absolutely brilliant and sweet. We've had a lab, golden mix, dalmation, even a greyhound... and the intelligence of this guy is beyond anything I've ever seen. I'd say the Lab was the "best" all around family dog, but the GSD is nearly as incredible, just different and won't get in the pool. lol. Very vocal too. Cute how he "talks" to us.

I've seen some gsd are with curved tails.
Does it mean it's a mixed breed?

and no slopping back or walking on the rear hocks. The AKC breeders have bread totally unnecessary defects into these beautiful animals. just say NO to breeding slopping backs, overly angulated hips, and weak rear legs!
First and foremost, BREED for function, temperament and health. Only after that is consistently achieved, then you can be concerned about appearance! Working bloodlines ONLY!

We have a pure bred female gsd but she is heavy! She's isn't fat but very lean but weighs around 86 pounds. I keep reading that females are supposed to max out at around 70 pounds. How is she so large? D:
